Full disclosure - I work with Russell @ AdMob.

Good post Russell. I share Justin's question. The innovation in mobile is being done by new communities (like Mocospace) and new companies focused on leveraging mobile. An increasing share of mobile traffic is headed to these sites. We need the youtubes to be sure, but they are part of the story.

There are starting to be better directories for finding mobile sites. I recently tried and liked Tribes. I am biased but TapTap.net tries to solve this as well. I believe the story of mobile content is going to take a different form than translated sites from the traditional interenet. We are just at the beginning...

Hi Justin

Good point and one I was going to make - but forgot!

No mention of the emerging giants of mobile ("little guys" is a bit too modest) like you, Peperonity, Itsmy etc etc. Though there was a token Facebook panelist. But with all due respect to Facebook, there's a big difference from launching on the web and then figuring out mobile (or not), than starting successfully on mobile in the first place.

However, I think awareness and recognition will come soon.
