<description>Russell, your good work in pointing to the bad people who use mobiles for bad purposes is helpful. Thank you! I agree with and have a comment on this point that you conclude with: “The real problem - and one that the programme really didn’t get to grips with at all - is why kids are behaving like this in the first place.”

As you know, my efforts in mobile are to push for their adoption as tools of open learning. Everything known to humankind is available online. I think new generations will grow up with healthier views if we can make it possible for them to all have mobiles that bring the open Internet to them— and give them guidance early on in using these tools of their time. Instead we look the other way and get upset when kids use the mobiles ineptly. To overstate it just a bit: Now Mommies, Daddies and school authorities believe they keep their good kids safe by not using mobiles for education. We should be showing children early on how to use their mobiles to good ends — like being safe, learning and expressing themselves in the connected world of their future. We have let mobiles become for kids forbidden tools for bad deeds instead of tools for the new global enlightenment. We mobilists could do something about that!

<description>I think you are been rather too hard on liveleak. I am visiting the site for over a year and never have I seen any &#039;happy slapping&#039; videos (there are other sites dedicated to it like nothingtoxic). Indeed, liveleak was showcased on BBC newsnight last June 14th (http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=8e9_1181861167) and it gives far better analysis than Russell gives to it. As the report says, it allows for uncensored, unedited stories from Iraq etc from the views of US soldiers and insurgents. Why should we go back to Gulf War (v.1) where the only videos to be shown by the corporate media were US airforce snuff vids from 30,000 feet. Why were these any more acceptable? i rather complement the news I get from the &#039;mainstream&#039; media with liveleak video and long may they continue.
