Thanks for the comments everyone.

Owen - we're actually talking ads served, not clicks in the above scenario, as clicks = revenues, certainly when using the CPC model. Click through rates are in the region of 1 - 2%.

Regarding mobile marketing: What's peculiar about this business is that we talk number of clicks, while the only thing that matters is how much revenue and profit it generates. Are there any official figures on that? Clearly Google is making most of its money (if not all) on advertizing, and mobile advertizing is 100% analogous to "PC Web" advertizing, yet currently with a higher click rate.

PayPal Mobile had some issues with operators getting their short code approved in the US... and I imagine operators have been hesitant to work with PayPal as they don't want it to threaten their virtual lock on payments.

Thanks for the comments.

Gabriel - nice you hear about Podcasting. And no idea why PayPal Mobile isn't getting support. It's like they're in stealth mode, which doesn't make sense!

Reckon you can have the podcasting one... there's empirical research showing that podcast apps are the biggest single driver of data consumption (measured by volume of data) by tech-savvy users on high-end devices.

It turns out that people are topping up their podcasts overnight on WiFi, rather than getting it off the 3G network.

FWIW, I like the Ebay/PayPal mobile site and have used it a few times to buy things. Do you know if it's had much promotion?

"I clearly completely underestimated the Apple fanboys’ willingness to buy anything made my Mr Jobs and Co, even if it’s not as great a product as the hype."

Yeah, maybe it's not as great as the hype, but million times better than my great great Nokia N95. N95 usability is a joke. The same goes for my previous N80. I'd trade my N95 for an iPhone without hesitation, but it's not available in my country (for now). Am I a fanboy now? Wait, my Nokia is running out of its 9MB (or 11?) execution memory, I have to stop now :)
